A serious fight at Meadowbrook High School Monday morning left one student with life-threatening injuries and another facing a felony charge.

Chesterfield Police say the incident involved students and happened early in the school day. A school resource officer initially called EMS for what was reported as a medical emergency before determining that the student had been assaulted.

Police say no weapons were involved. The injured student, a male under 18, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. His older brother says he remains in critical condition in the ICU.

Another male student, also a juvenile, has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding and is being held in juvenile detention.

Police are reviewing surveillance footage as they investigate whether other students were involved and could face charges.

Meadowbrook will have an increased police presence for the remainder of the week, and Chesterfield County Public Schools has made additional support services available to students and staff.

A seven-week search for a woman accused of killing two VDOT contractors in Chesterfield County has come to an end.

Virginia State Police say Dennikia Rachelle Boyce, 37, was arrested Thursday morning by U.S. Marshals in Scotland Neck, North Carolina. She is wanted in Virginia in connection with the July 24 shooting deaths of Philip Wilson and Rai'Shon DeLarge.

The two men were working at a VDOT site near the intersection of Route 1 and Route 288 when they were shot and killed. Authorities say Boyce fled Virginia following the shooting.

Boyce was reportedly located at a family member's home and taken into custody without incident. She also faces a federal unlawful flight charge.

The arrest brings an end to the lengthy search, but the criminal case surrounding a tragedy that claimed the lives of two workers here in Chesterfield is far from over.

Chesterfield County Police are investigating a deadly single-vehicle crash that happened early yesterday morning.

Police say a 2013 Honda SUV was traveling west in the 9000 block of River Road at around 1:53 a.m. when it went off the roadway and struck a drainage culvert.

The driver died at the scene.

The crash resulted in River Road being closed between Graves Road and Church Road, with motorists warned to expect delays in the area.

A Chesterfield firefighter who dedicated his career to protecting others has received a special honor in Richmond.

Lt. Robert Talbott, a veteran of Chesterfield Fire and EMS, had his name added to Virginia's Public Safety Memorial Wall, honoring public safety professionals who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Talbott passed away in 2024 following a battle with occupational cancer.

His family joined fellow firefighters at the ceremony to remember his life, service and commitment to the Chesterfield community.

It's a meaningful tribute to someone who spent his career answering the call when local residents needed help most—and a reminder of the health risks firefighters can face long after an emergency is over.

Chesterfield shoppers will soon have another grocery option.

Publix has announced that it signed a lease for a new store at the planned Shoppes at Old Hundred, a retail development coming to the intersection of Woolridge and Old Hundred roads.

The Florida-based grocery chain already has a growing presence around the Richmond region, and the new location will expand its footprint even further into Chesterfield County.

For residents in the fast-growing western Chesterfield and Midlothian area, the announcement means another major grocery store is headed their way as residential and commercial development continues spreading through that part of the county.

More details about the store and development timeline are expected as the Shoppes at Old Hundred project moves forward.

Details: A free resource fair for grandparents, relatives and other kinship caregivers raising children. Expect information on local resources, door prizes, pizza and a presentation from Melissa Ackley of Mental Health Support Services about navigating stress. Registration is preferred.

🏈 Manchester vs. Clover Hill Football

Details: The Cosby Titans host Huguenot in another local Friday-night Dominion District football matchup.

Details: This one is especially local: the James River Rapids welcome the Monacan Chiefs for a Chesterfield County rivalry game under the Friday-night lights.

🎸 ScucciFest 2026

Date: Saturday, Sept. 19
Time: Noon–9:00 p.m.; gates open at 11:30 a.m.
Location: American Legion Post 354, 4800 Welby Turn, Midlothian
Details: The 18th annual ScucciFest returns with multiple local bands, food, beverages and games for all ages. The James River music festival is the Mike Pascucci Cancer Association's major annual fundraiser supporting cancer research.

🚗 Chesterfield Cruzing Saturday Cruise-In

🏹 Introduction to Archery

Details: A local meeting focused on issues, services and resources affecting older adults and their families throughout Chesterfield County.

🏈 Manchester vs. Cosby Football

Date: Friday, Sept. 25

Location: Manchester High School, 12601 Bailey Bridge Road, Midlothian
Details: Two Chesterfield teams meet in a Friday-night Dominion District showdown as the Manchester Lancers host the Cosby Titans. Manchester enters this stretch of the season with a strong start, making this one worth highlighting for local football fans.

🏈 Matoaca vs. Dinwiddie Football

Date: Friday, Sept. 25
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Location: Matoaca High School, 17700 Longhouse Lane, Chesterfield
Details: The Matoaca Warriors return home for a Friday-night matchup against Dinwiddie. It's one of the bigger high-school sporting events taking place on the southern side of Chesterfield County during this ten-day window.
