TOP STORIES OF THE WEEK
🚔 Son Charged in Father's Day Weekend Homicide

A tragic Father's Day weekend incident in Chesterfield has led to a second-degree murder charge. Police say 65-year-old Kelly Connelly suffered fatal injuries after an altercation with his son, 33-year-old Kasey Connelly, at a home in the Enon area.
According to court documents, the two had reportedly been drinking when an argument broke out after Kelly said he planned to make his son leave the house.
A witness told investigators she heard a loud noise and then found Kasey standing over his injured father. Kelly was transported to the hospital but later died from his injuries on Sunday.
Kasey Connelly was arrested shortly afterward and is currently being held without bond at the Chesterfield County Jail. The investigation remains active, and police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
🚒 New Chesterfield Fire Station 1 Officially Breaks Ground

After years of planning, construction is now underway on a brand-new Chesterfield Fire Station 1. The project will replace a 64-year-old station that was originally built by volunteers in 1964 and was never designed for the around-the-clock operations required today.
The current station serves the county's second-busiest fire district, making the upgrade a major investment in public safety. Fire officials say the new facility will be expandable, capable of housing any emergency vehicle in the department's fleet, and will provide firefighters with a safer and more comfortable environment during their 24-hour shifts.
The project was approved by voters through the county's 2022 bond referendum and is expected to be completed sometime next year.
☢️ HAZMAT Scare Briefly Closes Swift Creek ER

A brief scare at Swift Creek ER last week turned out to be a false alarm, but it certainly got plenty of attention. Emergency crews responded after a patient reported possible exposure to a radiological agent, prompting a temporary lockdown of the facility.
First responders carefully inspected both the emergency room and the patient's vehicle while conducting safety tests. Fortunately, officials determined there was no hazardous material present and no danger to staff, patients, or the public. The ER reopened shortly afterward, and operations returned to normal.
While the situation ended safely, it serves as a reminder of the extensive precautions emergency personnel take whenever a potential hazardous materials incident is reported.
