TOP STORIES OF THE WEEK
🚨 Swatting Calls Target Three Chesterfield Homes in Just Six Hours

Three families in the same Chesterfield neighborhood had a terrifying Tuesday after fake 911 calls triggered major police responses at their homes. The incidents happened on Alfaree Road and nearby Dermotte Court, with callers falsely reporting murders and violent situations that simply weren't happening.
One homeowner said he looked out the window and saw armed officers surrounding his house and initially feared he was being robbed or attacked. He was ordered outside, handcuffed, and only later learned someone had made up a story about a homicide inside his home.
Similar scenes played out at two other homes just hours apart, including one involving a woman who was home alone when officers arrived with guns drawn.
Police say these "swatting" incidents are rare locally but are becoming a growing problem nationwide. Investigators are now working to determine where the calls came from, and officials say anyone responsible could face felony charges.
It was a stressful day for everyone involved and a reminder that abusing the 911 system can put both residents and first responders in danger.
⚖️ Virginia Assault Weapons Ban Temporarily Blocked by Judge

One of the biggest legal battles in Virginia this year just took a major turn. A Lancaster County judge issued a preliminary injunction that temporarily blocks Virginia's new assault weapons ban from taking effect as scheduled on July 1.
For now, the ruling means the law cannot be enforced by the Virginia State Police while the case works its way through the court system. Current reports indicate the injunction could remain in place through the end of 2026 unless a final court decision comes sooner.
Supporters of the lawsuit argue the ban violates both the Virginia Constitution and the Second Amendment, while supporters of the law believe it is an important step toward reducing gun violence.
The Virginia Attorney General has already announced plans to appeal the decision, so this issue is far from settled and will likely continue making headlines for months to come.
🐕 Chesterfield Honors Fallen K9 Knight

There wasn't a dry eye in the room as members of the Chesterfield County Police Department, neighboring agencies, and community members gathered to honor the life and service of K9 Knight.
The memorial service celebrated the loyal police dog who served alongside his handler and protected the community with courage and dedication. Officers shared memories of Knight's service and reflected on the unique bond that exists between police handlers and their K9 partners.
The ceremony concluded with a moving procession of K9 units from departments across the region, creating a powerful tribute to a partner who faithfully served Chesterfield County.
While K9 officers may wear fur instead of badges, anyone who attended the service could see just how deeply they are considered members of the law enforcement family.
Rest easy, K9 Knight. Your watch is over, and Chesterfield won't forget your service.

🎆 Expect Traffic Delays for Chesterfield's Fourth of July Celebration

If you're heading to the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds for the Fourth of July festivities, a little planning could save you a lot of time sitting in traffic.
County officials say all event traffic will enter through Krause Road off Iron Bridge Road, and parking lots will open in stages depending on attendance levels.
ADA parking will be available at L.C. Bird High School, while overflow parking may be directed to the Chesterfield Technical Center, O.B. Gates Elementary School, Government Center Parkway, and the Courthouse Complex.
As always, arriving early is your best bet if you want an easier parking experience and a good spot for the fireworks. With large crowds expected, patience will probably be just as important as sunscreen and bug spray.
🧪 HAZMAT Crews Respond to Suspicious Envelope in Chesterfield Neighborhood

Emergency crews, including HAZMAT teams, responded to the 4900 block of Enchanted Lane after someone discovered a suspicious envelope in a yard and called authorities.
Out of an abundance of caution, crews secured the area and tested the substance found inside the envelope. Fortunately, officials quickly determined that the material was not hazardous and posed no danger to nearby residents.
The entire incident wrapped up in a little over an hour, and the scene was cleared without injuries or evacuations.
While it turned out to be a false alarm, it's another reminder that first responders would rather investigate a concern and find nothing than ignore something that turns out to be serious.
👏 CCCI Celebrates Its First Local Hero: Robert Berlingeri Jr.

Every community has those people who quietly make life better for everyone around them, and Chesterfield County Community Insider recently recognized one of its own by naming Robert Berlingeri Jr. as its very first "Local Hero."
Friends and family describe him as someone who constantly gives back without asking for attention or recognition.
From feeding the homeless and supporting local food ministries to praying with people going through difficult times and helping churches provide food to families in need, his impact stretches across the community.
He's also a husband, father of six, business owner, and active supporter of several outreach efforts throughout the area.
Sometimes the people who make the biggest difference aren't the loudest voices in the room—they're the ones quietly showing up and helping wherever they're needed. Chesterfield is lucky to have people like Robert calling this community home.
