TOP STORIES OF THE WEEK

🚔 Escaped Inmate Captured in Chesterfield After Fleeing Chippenham Hospital

A man who escaped from law enforcement custody at Chippenham Hospital is back in custody following a search involving multiple agencies.

According to Chesterfield County Police, 22-year-old Devin Jacob Quick escaped Sunday evening, October 18, after receiving medical treatment at the hospital.

Authorities initially reported that Quick was last seen near the 1200 block of Apex Road in Chesterfield County, prompting a search throughout the area.

The search ended Monday morning, October 19, when officers located and arrested him around 7:38 a.m. in the 7800 block of West Bon View Drive.

Quick was an inmate at Riverside Regional Jail, where he was being held without bond on multiple charges originating in Chesterfield County, including felony assault, burglary, vehicle theft, and assault on a law enforcement officer.

He also faced additional charges in several neighboring counties.

Following his arrest, Quick was transported back to Chippenham Hospital for treatment related to possible injuries and exposure during his escape.

Hospital officials emphasized that while they provide medical care to patients in custody, law enforcement agencies remain responsible for supervision and security.

Chesterfield Police thanked the Sheriff's Office, Richmond Police, Virginia State Police, U.S. Marshals, and community members who helped with the search.

Thankfully, the situation ended with Quick back in custody.

🔥 Firefighters Battle Two-Story House Fire on Brevard Drive

Chesterfield County firefighters faced a challenging situation when they responded to a house fire on Brevard Drive.

When Chesterfield Fire and EMS crews arrived, heavy smoke and flames were already coming from the two-story home.

Firefighters immediately went to work battling the blaze and managed to bring it under control in approximately 45 minutes.

Thankfully, nobody was home when the fire broke out, and no injuries were reported.

That's certainly a relief, considering how serious the fire appeared when emergency crews arrived.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and officials have not yet released additional details about what started it.

House fires are always a sobering reminder of how quickly an emergency can develop.

It's a good opportunity to check your smoke alarms, review your family's escape plan, and make sure everyone knows what to do if a fire breaks out.

A big thank-you to Chesterfield Fire and EMS for their hard work responding to this incident.

We're especially grateful that everyone is safe!

🚒 New Chesterfield Fire Station Taking Shape as County Expands Emergency Services

Some exciting progress is happening in Chester as construction continues on the new Chesterfield County Fire and EMS Station 1!

Crews have reached a major milestone, with the walls of the new building now going up.

Once completed, the station will replace the current Station 1 facility, which has served the community for an impressive 64 years.

The new building is being constructed approximately half a mile down Route 10 from the existing station.

And that's not the only fire station project moving forward in Chesterfield County!

Officials are also preparing to break ground on a new Fire and EMS Station 12 in Ettrick, with construction expected to get underway in the coming weeks.

These projects represent an investment in the facilities that support our local firefighters, paramedics, and emergency responders.

As Chesterfield continues to grow, having modern facilities for emergency personnel becomes increasingly important.

It's great to see progress on projects that will help support the people who answer the call when our community needs them most.

We'll keep an eye on both construction projects as they move forward!

🚨 Kitchen Fire Prompts Evacuation at Chesterfield Towne Center

Shoppers and employees at Chesterfield Towne Center had an unexpected interruption last Wednesday evening after a kitchen fire broke out inside one of the mall's restaurants.

The incident prompted a precautionary evacuation while emergency crews responded.

Fortunately, the fire had already been extinguished before firefighters arrived.

Chesterfield County Fire and EMS crews inspected the building to make sure the situation was safe and worked to clear out any lingering smoke.

Once the building was checked and the smoke was removed, shoppers were allowed to return inside.

The good news? No injuries were reported.

While the incident caused a temporary disruption, it appears the situation was brought under control before it could become something much more serious.

It's another reminder of how important quick action and fire safety procedures can be, especially in busy public places.

A big thanks to the restaurant staff, mall personnel, and responding firefighters for helping keep everyone safe!

From festive costumes to plenty of smiling faces, the event offered a chance for deputies to interact with residents in a relaxed, family-friendly setting.

And judging by the photos, there was no shortage of Halloween fun!

Events like Spooktacular are a great reminder that our local first responders do more than handle emergencies and keep our neighborhoods safe.

They also spend time getting to know the people they serve and participating in activities that bring our community together.
