TOP STORIES OF THE WEEK
💡 Dominion Customers Face Another Increase on Their Electric Bills

Chesterfield residents who get their electricity from Dominion Energy should prepare for another hit to the monthly budget.
Virginia regulators have approved a plan allowing Dominion to recover roughly $1 billion in previously unrecovered fuel costs over seven years. A typical residential customer is already paying an additional $7.97 per month for those costs, and financing the debt will add another $2.26 — bringing the total impact to about $10.23 per month.
Dominion says spreading the repayment over seven years softens the blow. Without the financing plan, customers could have faced an increase of nearly $22 per month.
So what's driving the higher costs? Dominion points to rising natural gas prices and purchased-power costs. The company currently needs more electricity than it can generate itself, requiring it to buy additional power. Testimony before regulators also pointed to rapid growth from large electricity users, including data centers, as one factor contributing to increased demand.
The increase comes while customers are still paying off another $1.27 billion financing plan from 2023.
State regulators have now ordered Dominion to conduct a deeper analysis into why its fuel-cost forecasts have fallen so far short.
For Chesterfield households already watching monthly expenses, it's another utility cost worth keeping an eye on.
🚔 Chesterfield Police Employee Charged Over Alleged Misuse of Police Systems

Chesterfield County Police are reviewing their internal safeguards after an employee was charged following an investigation into the alleged misuse of sensitive police databases and license-plate-reader technology.
Rebekkah Robinson, a professional staff intelligence investigator who is not a sworn police officer, faces two counts of Computer Invasion of Privacy and two charges related to Virginia's law governing law-enforcement use of automatic license plate recognition systems.
According to CCPD, the investigation began after employees inside the department raised concerns about a coworker's use of systems that included VCIN/NCIC databases and Flock license-plate-reader cameras.
Supervisors reviewed the activity and reported finding suspicious transactions. Robinson's access was revoked, and the matter was referred for criminal investigation. She has since been placed on administrative leave without pay.
Police Chief Col. Frank Carpenter acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations, saying misconduct by a police employee can damage the public's trust. He also pointed to the fact that employees reported the concerns internally as evidence that staff members were willing to speak up.
CCPD says it's now conducting a department-wide review of policies and procedures involving police systems, with the review expected to take about 30 days.
The charges are allegations, and Robinson is entitled to due process as the case moves forward.
🚁 One Person Airlifted After Serious West Hundred Road Crash
Emergency crews responded to a serious crash in Chesterfield County involving a passenger vehicle and a commercial truck that was hauling two other trucks.
The collision happened just before 7 p.m. in the 900 block of West Hundred Road.
One person became trapped following the crash, prompting emergency crews to work to free them from the wreckage. Once rescued, the person was airlifted to a hospital for treatment.
The extent of that person's injuries wasn't immediately available.
There also wasn't any immediate word on exactly what caused the collision or whether anyone else involved was injured.
We'll keep an eye out for additional information as investigators work to determine what happened.

🚒 Runaway Trailer Strikes Chesterfield Fire Engine

Chesterfield firefighters had a close call while responding to an emergency after a trailer reportedly detached from a dump truck and struck a Fire and EMS engine.
The fire engine was leaving Fire Station 20 to respond to a structure fire when the incident happened on Courthouse Road.
According to officials, the dump truck lost control and its trailer became detached, colliding with the emergency vehicle.
Thankfully, no one was injured.
Chesterfield Police are investigating the incident.
Considering firefighters were already on their way to another emergency when this happened, we're especially glad everyone walked away safely.
And a big thank-you to the reader who sent us a photo from the scene! 📸 We always appreciate neighbors helping us keep the rest of Chesterfield informed about what's happening around the county.
🔥 Firefighters Quickly Contain Stone Manor Circle House Fire

Chesterfield County Fire and EMS crews responded Sunday afternoon to a house fire on Stone Manor Circle.
When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from the home and a fire burning in the garage.
Crews moved quickly and had the fire under control within about 15 minutes.
Most importantly, no injuries were reported.
Officials have not yet said what sparked the fire, and the cause remains under investigation.
Great work by Chesterfield's firefighters getting this one knocked down quickly and preventing what could have become a much more serious situation.
💧 Some Good News: Chesterfield's Drought Conditions Improve

Here's a bit of welcome news after the recent rain we've seen around the area. 🌧️
Improving water conditions have allowed Chesterfield to move from a drought warning to a drought watch, according to Virginia's Department of Environmental Quality.
That's a step in the right direction and means recent rainfall has helped improve conditions, but we're not completely out of the woods yet.
Residents are still being encouraged to use water wisely and conserve where possible while officials continue monitoring groundwater, streamflow and other conditions.
So while all that rain may have put a damper on some outdoor plans, it certainly wasn't wasted. Chesterfield needed it!
Let's hope Mother Nature keeps things moving in the right direction as we head deeper into fall. 🍂
