TOP STORIES OF THE WEEK
🚨 Halloween Party Tragedy: 19-Year-Old Killed, 12-Year-Old Critically Injured in Chesterfield

What should have been a fun Halloween weekend turned into a heartbreaking tragedy in Chesterfield County.
Early Sunday morning, November 1, police responded to reports of gunshots in the 8800 block of Chester Forest Lane in the Treemont subdivision around 1:50 a.m.
While officers were on their way, additional calls came in reporting that someone had been struck by a truck.
Police identified the man who died as 19-year-old Arturo Luna-Ortiz of Chesterfield. A 12-year-old boy was also injured and remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
Investigators say Luna-Ortiz had been assaulted by a group of males before gunshots were fired. Police are still working to identify those involved in that altercation.
The suspected driver, 19-year-old Jorvin Gonzalez Del Cid, was arrested after police say his truck struck Luna-Ortiz, hit a parked vehicle, and left the scene.
He faces several charges, including driving under the influence, maiming resulting from driving while intoxicated, and hit-and-run resulting in injury. He is being held without bond.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information to call 804-748-1251 or Crime Solvers at 804-748-0660.
Our hearts go out to Arturo's family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. We're also hoping for a full recovery for the young boy who was injured.
🚔 Shooting at Virginia State University Injures One, Prompts Campus Lockdown

A shooting Monday night at Virginia State University in Ettrick left one person injured and prompted a campus-wide lockdown.
The incident was reported shortly after 10 p.m. in the Gateway area of the university campus.
According to initial reports, one person was shot in the leg and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The victim's condition has not been released.
University officials placed the campus on lockdown while law enforcement responded and investigated the shooting.
The lockdown was lifted early Tuesday morning, although police continued asking people to avoid the Moore Hall and Gateway areas while investigators worked.
No arrests had been reported as of the latest information provided.
The incident is especially concerning because the university experienced another shooting in August that left five people injured.
For students, parents, faculty, and everyone connected to Virginia State, it's another unsettling situation.
We're hoping the injured person makes a full recovery and that the university community can move forward safely.
Authorities are continuing their investigation.
🚗 Deadly Head-On Crash on Harrowgate Road Leaves One Dead, Another Injured
A serious two-vehicle crash last Thursday evening in Chesterfield County claimed one person's life and sent another to the hospital.
The accident happened around 8:30 p.m. in the 13000 block of Harrowgate Road.
According to Chesterfield County Police, a Honda Accord was traveling southbound when it crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming Ford F-250 pickup truck.
Sadly, the driver of the Honda died at the scene.
The driver of the Ford F-250 was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Police have not released additional details about what caused the Honda to cross into oncoming traffic.
The crash remains under investigation.
It's another heartbreaking reminder of how quickly things can change on the road.
Whether you're driving through Chesterfield's busy intersections or traveling along quieter stretches of roadway, staying alert and giving yourself plenty of room can make a difference.
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the person who lost their life, and we wish the injured driver a speedy recovery.

⚖️ Chesterfield Man Sentenced to 11 Years in Federal Prison for Methamphetamine Distribution
A Chesterfield County man will spend the next 11 years in federal prison after being sentenced for distributing methamphetamine.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, 33-year-old Elliot Davis supplied methamphetamine to an undercover Drug Enforcement Administration agent during a controlled purchase in March 2025.
During that transaction, Davis provided approximately 112 grams of methamphetamine.
Court documents also revealed that he had an additional pound and a half of methamphetamine stored in a hotel room.
Federal authorities announced the 11-year prison sentence on October 27.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts of federal law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute illegal drug distribution in our region.
Methamphetamine trafficking remains a serious public safety concern, affecting not only those involved in the drug trade but also families and neighborhoods throughout our communities.
With the sentence now handed down, Davis faces more than a decade behind bars.
🔥 Apartment Fire on River Rock Drive Displaces Family of Three

A Chesterfield County family is receiving assistance from the American Red Cross after a fire damaged their apartment on River Rock Drive.
Chesterfield County Fire and EMS crews responded to the 2000 block of River Rock Drive after a resident heard a smoke alarm and called 911.
When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from a second-floor apartment and flames inside a bedroom.
Crews immediately went to work and managed to bring the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes.
Thankfully, nobody was injured.
However, the fire displaced one adult and two children, who are now receiving assistance from the Red Cross.
Fire officials determined that the blaze was accidental and believe a candle may have been responsible.
It's an important reminder for all of us, especially as the weather gets cooler and we start spending more time indoors.
Never leave burning candles unattended, and always keep them away from curtains, bedding, and anything else that could catch fire.
We're thankful everyone made it out safely and appreciate the quick response from Chesterfield Fire and EMS.
Hopefully, this family can get back on its feet soon.
